Have you ever been with a friend having a little friendly competition when the inevitable happens? Someone starts to win and someone starts to lose and suddenly the "friendly competition" begins to head south.
Probably, we've all been there. You know how it goes. The winner starts his or her jesting and rubbing it in and the loser starts getting sore. Before you know it, the game is very competitive, serious and, anything but, fun and friendly.
Why does this happen? Maybe it's just human nature. Maybe the one on the winning side enjoys the moment a little too much. Whatever the reason, it happens time and time again. And we fall for it time and time again.
Life is NOT a competition. Yet, we hear it all the time that you only live once (YOLO) so you'd better do all you can, get all you can and be all you can; after all, you only live once.
When you start to think of life like this, as a competition, things begin to head south quickly. We fail to enjoy the moment. We forget that life is NOT about us, but about our Heavenly Father. We put too much stock in ourselves. And before we know it, life is a competition; serious and anything but glorifying to our King.
So when you see life turning into a "not so friendly competition" and heading south, STOP! Remember that we are to let our light shine before others so they can see our good works and give glory to our Father Who is in heaven.
Life is not a competition. We do "only live once", but life is not about dying with the most toys. It's about serving the Creator who loves us more than life Who wants a relationship with us and wants us to share our relationship with others so they can have the joy and hope of salvation, too.
May the Lord bless you as you choose to serve Him in abandoned obedience.
