Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil.
The good news is that being strong doesn’t mean to put on a brave face or to stand stoically. Being strong in the Lord is to rest in His might. Yep, you heard that right, r e s t. Rest. Let me say it again, just in case you missed it – rest.
I want to hone in on the first sentence of the verse, so I will touch on what comes after that sentence first, lest I forget.
In order to be strong in the Lord and in the strength of His might, we must put on the full armor of God. You know what that is, but if you need a reminder…
Belt of Truth and Breastplate of Righteousness
o 14Stand therefore, having fastened on the belt of truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness,
·Shoes – Gospel of Peace
o 15 and, as shoes for your feet, having put on the readiness given by the gospel of peace.
· Shield of Faith
o 16 In all circumstances take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming darts of the evil one;
·Helmet of Salvation and the Sword of the Spirit
o 17 and take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God,
o 18 praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication. To that end, keep alert with all perseverance, making supplication for all the saints,
We need the whole armor of God so we can stand against the schemes of the devil. After all, the devil has been around a lot longer than you and I. He has had time to hone his evil schemes. He can play the same mean tricks with every new generation and get better each time. So don’t think you can withstand him on your own.
Now back to the topic at hand. Be strong. In order to be strong in the Lord (so we can rest in His strength), we must FIRST belong to Him. Check your salvation. Make sure that He has you in His hand.
Not sure…. Romans 10:9-10 English Standard Version (ESV)
9 because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.10 For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved.
Get to know Him. Study the Bible. The Holy Spirit will teach you so much. You will learn things about our Lord Jesus that you never knew.
Understand your part. Love Jesus. Love people. Tell others about Christ. Teach people what you know.
If you do these things, you will be strong in the Lord. Therefore, you can rest in the strength of His might.
You see He has ALL power, so we don’t have to have power. We just rest in His. So, my friend, BE STRONG!
