Every New Year I am encouraged to make plans for the upcoming year.  I don’t know about you, but if I didn’t make plans and attempt to follow through with them, then I would never get anything done.  I need order to help me be productive.

I’m so thankful for God’s example of order and rest! I’m always reminded that God is the God of order when I think of creation.

God took six days to create the world and all that is in it. We know that God didn’t need six days to create the world and all that is in it; He could have done it in one word.  But He chose to demonstrate an orderly fashion of creation for our benefit.

He rested on the seventh day for our benefit, as well.  We know that God doesn’t sleep or slumber so He doesn’t require rest.  Again, He rested as an example for our benefit.

Creation alone shows us that God is the God of order. He is not chaotic.

Jesus said we are to count the cost before starting a building.  Much of scripture teaches us to plan ahead and count the cost. However, we are also taught to be flexible in the event the Holy Spirit directs a change to our plans.

This year, as you make your plans, seek Jesus’ first and be sure to align yourself to His plans.  And always be willing to change your plans should the Holy Spirit direct you.

But all things should be done decently and in order. 1 Corinthians 14:40
