Have you ever noticed just how hard it is to make a lasting transformation in your life? It's hard! But not impossible.
The full verse of Romans 12:2 reads, "Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect."
We see TV shows all the time about someone who is transformed from the outside, like the Biggest Loser. Haven't you seen that person who lost a lot of weight and made a dramatic change on the outside only to see them again in a year or so and they are right back where they started, or worse? We've all seen that or have been that!
But real transformation comes from the inside. As believers, we must, MUST dig into the Word of God and determine to be changed by the Holy Spirit. We do that by being obedient.
I once heard a preacher say that the Christian life is fought and won between our ears. Let me tell you, that was mind-blowing for me! But what truth!! You see, we chart the course of our lives. We decide if we are going to trust Christ for salvation or not. We decide if we are going to live in obedience to the Holy Spirit of not. We decide what thoughts we allow or not. (Thoughts are not temptations. Temptations develop once WE DECIDE to entertain those thoughts. In other words, it's what WE DECIDE to do with those thoughts that make them into temptations.)
So how do we proceed with the transformation we want? Well, if we want to change our physical bodies permanently, we must not only change our food intake and exercise habits, but we must change what we think. We start thinking like healthy, active people. Rather than, "I want a burger", we think, "I want a salad." Rather than, "I'll just sit here for 20 minutes", we think, "I'll go walk for 20 minutes." Rather than, "I'm so fat", we think, "I'm healthy and fit." We have to keep telling ourselves positive thoughts for them to become the new norm.
It's the same way with our Christian life. Rather than reading romance, sci-fi, ect,. we read the Bible and other biblical motivational books or materials. Rather than watching TV all the time, we listen to scripture and/or listen to Christian music.
Remember the old adage, "Garbage in, garbage out." Well, that's really a principle of God. I believe the Bible puts it this way, "as a man thinks in his heart, so is he:" Proverbs 23:7 a.
So, if you want "Transformation" in your life, start from within. Pray, read scripture, guard your mind. Follow the Holy Spirit's lead. You're just a few decisions away!
By the way, do you know what impossible really says? It says, "I'm possible." Yep, that was free, :)
