I took the above photo while on a trip to Hot Springs, AR with a friend.  That is Lake Hamilton at sunrise.  It was a very relaxing and renewing few days.

My friend has been a Southern Baptist missionary in Africa most of her adult life. She and her husband were home on furlough when she and I took this get away trip.  It was fabulous!  We agreed to have supper together and enjoy one another’s company in the evenings, but the mornings and afternoons we retreated away alone to seek the Lord.

We took time to have our own person devotions and quiet time with the Lord in the mornings.  She would go to one part of the house we stayed in and I went to the other.  We seldom saw each other in the morning. We usually took breaks at the same time for lunch so we shared our lunch meals together.  Then we would retreat back to our personal quiet space until evening. During this time we would seek God’s guidance for particular areas of our lives and work on goal and plans.

It was funny that every morning we each walked around the neighborhood, but neither of us realized the other was walking until we talked about our days.  I’m telling you, we seldom saw each other in the mornings.  Of course, the first morning I slept in (I won’t say how late – I was ashamed of myself). That must have meant that I needed the rest, right?

I’m telling you, I would love to do this a couple of times a year.  It was great to spend uninterrupted time with Jesus and to pull away from the business of life to focus on Him and His direction for my life.

When I looked back over my photos from the trip, this one really caught my attention.  I was reminded that we truly are without excuse.  After all, the heavens declare the glory of God. So I looked up the verse, added it to my photo and found canvasdiscount.com to have the canvas made.

I love how that one turned out so much that I had several other photos printed on canvas. If you want to check it out for yourself, just click on the link below. Plus recieve 15% off your order of $30 or more if you use this link:

enthusiasm It's the last Friday of 2016...

What's your outlook into 2017?  I hope you are as enthusiastic as this little girl is!

In just 2 days we will usher in 2017 - ready or not!  I am looking forward to making this my best year ever!  Aren't you? Yes I know there are things that are outside my control, but I am enthusiastically ready to put 100% of effort into the things I can control: attitude and effort.

  •  Attitude
    • outlook on life
    • how I react to others
  • Effort
    • giving 100%
    • choosing where to put my efforts

"Do everything without grumbling or arguing,"  Philippians 2:14

I believe 2017 CAN be our best year ever if we ENTHUSIASTICALLY embrace what we can control, let go of the things we can't control and are wise enough to discern the difference!
Emerson said, "Nothing great was ever achieved without enthusiasm."
So, get your "enthusiasm" on and make it a great 2017!

Never Too Late

never-too-late How often do we think, "Well, it's too late for me to ..."? You fill in the blank.  Good news! It's NOT too late to be or do whatever it is you are called to do.  Think about it.  Moses was 80 when God called him to lead His people out of Egypt.

I think we often have a desire deep down that we keep buried year after year because we are busy with life in the stage or season that we are wrapped up in at the time.  Then one day, God whispers to us that desire we have kept deep down safely tucked away and we suddenly think "It's too late."  But it's not too late!

Maybe, just maybe, God wanted you to have some life experience before you acted on that dream/desire.  Maybe it wasn't the right time, but now it is.  Maybe we needed a little refining before actively pursuing that desire.

I don't know what it is that you are pondering.  I don't know what it might take to do the deep desire you've had.  But I do know this...if God has planted a desire in you, He will bring it to completion IF you will yield to Him.  That's called surrender.  And that's what He wants so the desire will be accomplished for His glory and not our own.

If you are feeling a tug to be or do something that you've been thinking "it's too late", it's not too late!  For the Glory of God, DO IT!!

Clean or Cluttered?

cluttered space       or         Clutter and creativity

I'm sure you've heard the old adage that "a cluttered space means a cluttered mind", haven't you? Yet, many of the most well known brilliant people were known to be, well, pretty cluttered and disorganized. So what is it for you? Does cleanliness and organization bring clarity to you? OR,  can you only function in chaos?

I think I have been a bit of both in my life.  In the past, my mantra was "out of sight, out of mind" so EVERYTHING stayed in sight.  I'm telling you, if I put a work project in the desk drawer because I had to do something else at that time, I would slap forget about it until it was a crisis in my face!  If I packed a crock pot away at home because I rarely used it, I would later find that I had 2 or 3 because I had gone out and bought another when I needed it.

As I'm getting older, I find that my mind has more lolling around in there than I can possibly deal with.  And while I have always been a list maker, now I depend on the list in order to remember things.  And being surrounded by clutter has started making me somehow nervous or anxious.  I think this may be the case with many people these days as I see more and more about "brain dumps" once a week so you can stop "worrying" about things and still get it all done.

Suddenly, the question that comes to mind is, "Who decides what "it all" is that needs to be done?" Am I backing myself into a corner trying to please people who don't care, get things I don't need and miss out on what really matters?

If you've read the last few of my posts, you'll know that I am decluttering and getting better organized.  I am not doing this to make an appearance or show to those who may pop into my house (which I love guests, by the way) or to be in on a minimalist fad.  I am doing this because, today, it is bringing peace and calm into my once very frenzied life.
